Mindy I liked how you displayed hunger to learn even did an underpaying job, have idea of testing yourself with peers, or making sure to get every question correct.🤓 Reading about your limbo and snag phases in your life seems to show direction how to steer clear the way for myself as well into my journey becoming something in this field.
Interesting, and really impressive you could do this in a non-academic environment. I took the academic route (have a PHD), learning multiple programming languages and statistics through necessity of having to complete my very data intensive projects. Fortunately, I could sign up for workshops/classes at the university as I completed my studies. I remember being an undergraduate, in the early 2010s interviewing for something and I told them about my "Excel skills" and the interviewer replied that "Excel is useless" so I started self-learning Python and added advanced stats classes to my course work. I found that I really loved coding and statistics (I had hated the computer classes I had taken freshman year) and now primarily do data science.
Thank you so much for giving such a bright insight of how to become a data scientist. To be very honest I also wanted to become a data scientist and currently I am a student in master in computer application but I am not sure it's the right time to chase my dream in this recession period. I would be grateful if I get some suggestions from a experience person like you :)
It's worth considering what your alternatives are and compare the pros and cons. What you would be doing if not pursuing data science? Would your alternatives be affected by recession (arguable) as well?
You have a inspirational journey ma'am.
I clicked the like button before I got to the end of the article because this was such a very good read!Thank you Mandy, Blessings
Thank you so much! Glad you like the story
Your journey truly highlights the diverse paths one can take to enter data science and the dedication required to land a dream job.
I loved reading about how you continuously leveled up, and your insights are always valuable.
Thank you Ankit! Data science is indeed diverse. Even soft engineering can be too, which is beautiful to see

thank you for your thoughtful comment Shreyash.
Wha't your goal in the data field and where are you currently at?
I really enjoyed reading this Mandy. It made me think back to my early career years trying to juggle finding my career path and personal life.
Also, I got excited for you during the "Opportunity knocks" section :)
Would want to read about your career path as well, Andres!
Wow your journey shows there really are so many ways to get into data science, also how much work it takes to get a dream job.
Loved reading how you kept levelling up and the takeaways are gold ❤️
Thank you so much! When I finished writing, I was like “wow didn’t know I overcame so many hurdles”
Yeah, sometimes when you write stuff for others it's what you figure out yourself that is actually rewarding, I love it

Excel is still super useful! It has so many functionalities. Glad you took up python! One of my favorite languages

Hi Arpita,

Thank you so much for a quick response :)
Everyone telling me to become a full stack web developer. In my opinion yes there is a chance it's gonna effected by recession too.
