One of the most valuable advice given by my career mentor is that you have to act like a VP, take VP responsibilities before you apply for a VP position, so always action and think as if you are already in that higher position. Great article and concrete advice !
Great article. These ideas are true about so much in life. Want to be a healthy person, start making healthy choices. Want to be a morning person, set your alarm earlier. Want to be successful, start behaving like a successful person would. It's not "faking it till you make it", it's just "doing and then being".
Thanks for sharing so many tips @Andres and @Mandy. Controlling the narrative -> This is a very useful skill to have on how to present yourself to prospective employers
These are such great points and something many of us don't realize until we leave the education bubble. The way we perceive ourselves fundamentally alters how others will perceive us -- so it's important to be confident about our skills and clear about what we're curious to learn and apply in our roles.
Academia is a bubble - so true. Working in the real world is fundamentally different from being in school. In school, we consume; in society, we produce.
The best takeaway for me was in the subhead, the mindset matters so much, applies to students and career-changers, like how you went from a data scientist to a solopreneur!
Really LOVED this, Mandy and Andres. Framing is so powerful. When I read both profiles, I really thought Profile 1 was an undergrad student with minimal work experience vs. Profile 2 sounded like a Data Scientist with several years of experience. Such a great lesson.
Helpful information, Mandy. I have shared your article in my knowledge base:

yes. Switch from "I can learn" to "I can do"
and then “i have done”
