- If they offer a money back guarantee, I have nothing to lose
- my gut feeling
There are courses being offered from $20 to $2000. You have to know your budget and start with what you're comfortable with first, and build up your risk appetite as you go.
Remember: life doesn't give you guarantee. There's no guarantee when you enroll into university, you'd find a job you love. There's no guarantee when you walk into a Michelin start restaurant, you'd love the food you get served. And they certainly won't give you the money back.
Also remember this: doing business involves risks. If you can't stand losing the money you budget to lose, business is not for you. Have you met anyone who's invested in the stock market and never lost a penny?

Hi Mandy,
I agree with everything you say in this article. One question though: How do you know which course will be a good investment?
For a newbie solopreneur like me, investing in 1-2 courses that don't deliver their promises hurts badly.
Yes, I checked the clients' testimonials before hitting the Buy now button. But should I say the course and me, we are not a good match?
In short, what is your advice when looking for courses?
hey Trang great question. Here's what I look for:
- The teacher's work and reputation
- student success cases
- If they offer a money back guarantee, I have nothing to lose
- my gut feeling

Hope that makes sense.
Thank Mandy for the reminders. You're so right about risk-taking in business as in life.
